One week out the new MidCoast Council is starting to take shape. We won't know the final composition until postal votes are counted and the first meeting of the new council will be in January. So far we have spoken to two leading candidates, Peter Epov, whose group secured more than 18 per cent of the primary vote, and Alan Tickle, a former Greater Taree City councillor seeking his first term with the amalgamated council. There will be more interviews to come.

Close but not quite there - donations are still needed to ensure Taree's Australia Day celebrations end with a bang. The committee organising the day's events, which include ceremonies in the morning and a concert at the RiverStage in the event, is working towards a fireworks display.
Watch our video as aspiring young poet Connor Wood reads his poem about war.
Looking for something to do? We have two additions to our website, Christmas events across the Mid Coast and Gig guide for the Mid Coast. Both will be updated regularly and can be found on our home page.
Here's some highlights from our sports pages. Old Bar Pirates Rugby League Club donated $39,000 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, proceeds of a memorial day held for Joel Dark, a club junior who died after sustaining a head knock playing for Central Charlestown in Newcastle in 2020. Veteran sailor Warren Ruprecht explains his life-long love of the river. And after three tumultuous years, Manning Valley Netball Association is hoping the 2022 season will be "normal".
And here's something every parent can relate too - Tinonee bike racer Hayden Nelson will step up in class to Supersport 300 next year. The reason? He's outgrown his motorbike.
And it would be remiss of me not to mention our digital subscription offer, where you can "give" a subscription as a Christmas gift. Details HERE
