"Look after you hygiene, wash your hands, wear a face mask, follow the 1.5m rule; follow the same rules as when we were basically locked down last year," Cr West said.

MidCoast Council has closed a number of facilities in its southern region of the LGA (local government area) following the snap lockdown of Newcastle and its surrounding LGAs.

Both the Tea Gardens service point, Stroud customer service and library will be closed until next Friday, while the Gloucester waste unit will be closed until Tuesday, August 10

At this stage, the Tea Gardens library will be closed today, August 6 and tomorrow, Saturday, August 7.

"This is a sensible attitude to close Gloucester until Tuesday," Cr West said.

"We have no control of where people are coming from."

Cr West said there was a lot of interaction between Newcastle and the Mid Coast LGA.

Council's general manager, Adrian Panuccio said considering the proximity of the shutdown to the area, council was closely monitoring the situation.

"Our responsibility is to assist in keeping our Mid Coast community safe and we'll be making whatever changes are necessary to ensure this happens."

Mr Panuccio said anyone who had visited the Newcastle and Hunter regions since last Saturday, July 31 would need to adhere to the stay at home orders and not attend council facilities.

Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead is urging everyone to be vigilant and follow the guidelines.

"The current covid cases nearing our community are of concern, therefore I am urging anyone with even the mildest of symptoms to get tested," Mr Bromhead said.

."Vaccination is our best hope against COVID-19, so I encourage everyone who can, to get the jab.

"I had my first Astra Zeneca dose a few weeks ago and encourage residents to get vaccinated if they haven't already.

"We know there are cases nearby which is why it's more important than ever to abide by the rules, practice social distancing, good hand hygiene and wearing a mask."
