Linda Britton, of Raleigh Street, Nambucca Heads, did not appear before the court this morning. No plea was entered in the short mention for the matter.
Ms Britton's legal representative, Mr Dickha indicated there is the possibility of applying for a release application later this week.
Ms Britton is charged with manslaughter, dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop and render assistance after an impact causing death. The matter went before Magistrate B Thomas at Kempsey, where family and several media organisations were present.
Police are alleging that there was an altercation between two women, aged 20 and 24, in the Nambucca Plaza shopping centre car park on Saturday night.
The 52-year-old mother of one of the women arrived at the scene soon after and allegedly hit both of the younger women - which led to them being trapped under the vehicle.
Police allege the driver then left the scene.
Emergency services personnel and members of the public managed to lift the car and free the women, but both died at the scene.
The deceased are understood to be a 24-year-old from Bellingen and a 20-year-old from Macksville.
Police resources from across the State were called in to investigate the incident that has left two families reeling from the tragedy. Detectives from the Mid North Coast Police District are leading the investigation.
Officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
"The circumstances surrounding this incident are horrific and have resulted in the tragic loss of two young women," Mid North Coast Police District Commander Superintendent Paul Fehon said.
Police are appealing for any information about a vehicle similar to a white Commodore in the area at the time of the incident.
