“I’ve spoken in Parliament on the plans for stage two and the facilities and services that the community expect to be upgraded as part of the future development,” Mr Bromhead said.
Earlier this week the Manning River Times reported that the petition calling for further funding for Manning Hospital has been signed by more than 6000 of the target 10,000 signatories. The petition is available at local pharmacies and doctors’ surgeries.
As part of the Community Cabinet meeting visit to Myall Lakes, the Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Health Brad Hazzard visited Manning Hospital and saw first-hand the ward buildings and imaging facilities.
“I was very pleased with the additional $20 million to continue stage one redevelopment works, but the job will not finish there,” Mr Bromhead said.
Stage one is underway with $40 million already committed and the renal dialysis and oncology unit is due to open later this year.
“I am working with general manager Jodi Nieass and Hunter New England Health on future plans and I have an open dialogue with the Minister for Health.
“The community’s expectation is that if a petition is presented to Parliament, it is done by their local MP, so I look forward to receiving the Manning Hospital petition to present to the Parliament and the Premier.”
Any petition that contains at least 10,000 signatures will receive an allotted time to be debated in the Legislative Assembly.
