The man, 25, from Two Wells north of Adelaide, died at the scene about 5.30am on Tuesday, SA Police said.
"The crash occurred within the boundaries of the mines," police said in a statement.
Police described the man as a pedestrian and did not provide further details of the collision.
The BHP-owned Olympic Dam mines copper and other minerals and is about 550km from Adelaide.
Major crash investigators are making inquiries and SafeWork SA has been notified as police prepare a report for the coroner.
