The NSW Teachers Federation president Angelo Gavrielatos said this week's strike action "sent a powerful message to the State's premier about the need to act on salaries, workloads and growing teacher shortages."
Principal of Chatham High School Daryl Irvine, and Old Bar Public School teacher Margaret Gordon addressed the audience with personal reflections of the significance of the campaign to them.
Ms Gordon said teachers' salaries are not attracting new teachers to the profession which has caused a significant statewide shortage and "kids are missing out."
"Teachers' working conditions are students' learning conditions," she said.
Mr Gavrielatos said tens of thousands of teachers across the State had participated in the first 24 hour stoppage in a decade.
"Teacher shortages exist because other professions pay better and the workloads are lower," he said.
