This is judged by the NSW coaching staff and goes to a player who displays the qualities upon which the team culture is built.
A Taree Red Rovers junior, Mitchell returned to the NSW State of Origin rugby league side this year after injury ruled him out in 2020, where Queensland won 2-1.
While he plays fullback for South Sydney, Mitchell partnered Manly's Tom Trbojevic in the centres.
Mitchell was among NSW's best in the opening two games, both won comfortably by the Blues.
He scored four tries in three matches, including two in the opening fixture in Townsville, where the Blues won 50-6. Mitchell was a major contender for the player of the series award, eventually taken out by Trbojevic.
NSW won the series 2-1, despite all three matches being played in Queensland due to COVID restrictions.
