The Manning River Times was made aware of this significant day by members of our community. Those members nominated several woman to approach, unfortunately time didn't allow us to talk to them all but there is always next year. To those who did speak with us and share their stories - Christine George, Debbie and Emma Polson, Em Trotter and Kerry MacAulay, thank you for your time.

The first International Day of Rural Women was observed on October 15, 2008. This new international day, established by the General Assembly in its resolution 62/136 of December 18, 2007, recognises "the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty."
