The road realignment and roundabout project, between Tea Tree and Sweet Pea roads, was expected to take up to six months to complete.
Work also will include construction of a major culvert allowing for the diversion of Dunns Creek.
A roundabout will also be constructed connecting the new Palms Lake Estate and The Southern Parkway when it is extended.
The work is being undertaken by council contractors in a staged process, allowing for two travel lanes to remain open for the maximum period possible during works.
However, over the six month period, motorists should expect changed traffic conditions, and are urged to obey all traffic directions and exercise caution when travelling through the worksite.
Preliminary works are already underway, involving adjustments to the water mains and electrical poles and wires to allow for the road realignment.
