Volunteers at Tinonee Museum welcomed a visit by a young man and his family last week from the Sydney area. The young dad turned out to be a former resident and student of Tinonee Public School, Derek Powell. Derek had left Tinonee with his family when he was approximately six years old and was showing his wife and children his childhood home and school. Derek and family enjoyed their time at the Museum before heading down to the street to Tinonee Public School where Derek was able to view a Memorial Honour Board to his late sister Catherine who was tragically killed in a car accident when only 11 years old.
School news
Term two ends on Friday after what has been a busy time for staff and students and all are hoping the two week break will be a happy, safe and sunny time for all.
Students in year six created mosaics on Monday, June 21 after which they were treated to a barbecue lunch. I am sure it would have been a fun experience for all even if they did have to dress in long pants and cover their arms, wear safety glasses, gloves and face masks.
On Wednesday, June 23 a Crazy Sock and Beanie Day is taking place organised by the Student Representative Council members and they will be accepting a gold coin donation from all participants - at least they will be warm.
The final activity for the term will be the Kidpreneur Day on Thursday, June 24 with funds being raised for Need to Feed and it will be an out of uniform day with students asked to dress up as a farmer for the day.
Heaven and Earth Legends Show
Joined the full house performance at Wingham Services Club last Saturday evening with performer Wayne Cooper paying tribute to Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Neil Diamond and he was assisted by Mel Zambelis who portrayed Dusty Springfield and Connie Francis. The songs brought back many happy memories for me. Thanks to the Club for organizing the entertainment and I am hoping to be able to get to the Mamma Mia 'Abba' Tribute Show at the end of July.
Accident on Tinonee Road
Coming home we were caught up in the accident on the Tinonee/Wingham Road just past Brushy Cutting Lookout. Four Fire and Rescue and RFS trucks, one from Wingham, two from Tinonee and another from Wallaby Joe had all lights flashing as they looked for the car which had gone over the bank and was smoking when we were pulled up.
Fortunately the hold up was short and from reports no one was seriously hurt, thankfully.
Advance notice of visit
State Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, will be making his half-yearly visit to Tinonee on Monday, July 12 and will be on hand at the Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall from 10am approximately. More details as the date gets closer.
