"Wonderful community-minded locals in Taree," the Port Macquarie-based musician concluded.
Murray is a classical guitarist (13+ years), retired microbiologist (34 years) and a Qigong/Tai Chi instructor (36 years). He is currently on the fundraising trail for The Smith Family but has previously raised more the $70,000 for Lifeline through a staggering 409 public performances in 156 major shopping centres.
He performed at Manning Mall over three days and his tallies were: Friday June 18, $290.25; Saturday June 19, $145.80; Sunday June 20, $188.15.
Murray said he played to an appreciative audience but more important was spreading the word about the work of Australia's children's charity The Smith Family.
"This is a turning point for me," Murray said. "On top of two separate mothers at Central Kempsey shopping centre (three weeks ago), one mother and father at the Manning Mall approached me and wanting their two children to be supported by The Smith Family - I'm pretty sure there were many of struggling families passing by in the last three days).
"I explained to them to contact The Smith Family and explained to them briefly the protocols they will be provided by the Smith Family.
"This is a real privilege for me indeed. Happened to me so many times during my three year tour for Lifeline."
