Coach Ben Sedlen said despite the poor start the side still hopes to figure in this year's semi-finals, but he concedes it will be 'tough' to qualify. Taree faces another difficult game this weekend when they tackle Coffs United at Coffs Harbour.
"We haven't given up and you should always want to play in the semis,'' Sedlen said.
"But we'll have to start getting some wins soon.''
However, Sedlen said the club is already looking at the future. The Wildcats have bulked up their roster with five new signings in the last fortnight and Sedlen is confident this will soon translate to better results on the field.
Taree produced their best effort of the year when going down to Kempsey Saints 2-1 last Saturday at Omaru.
"We've spoken to our players and the majority are in it for the long haul,'' Sedlen said.
"We have players who will be going to uni in this area for the next few years and they want to stay involved with the club and help us going forward.''
Sedlen explained that the Wildcats want to be the club that better players in this area want to join.
"We're in the stronger competition and if players want to challenge themselves then they can come and play with us,'' he said.

The Wildcats had a disrupted training session on Tuesday night with a number of players carrying niggling injuries or battling with the flu.
"I think most of them will be right, but we'll wait until Thursday to finalise the team,'' Sedlen said earlier this week.
Coffs United sits in third place behind Port United and Boambee and Sedlen said they gave the Wildcats a bit of a lesson when they met last year.
"I think that was the heaviest defeat we had,'' he said.
"But we improved last weekend against Kempsey and hopefully we're going in the right direction now.''
He said early in the week goal keeper Dylan Webber should be available after recovering from a shoulder injury.
In other round seven games tomorrow Port United will host Kempsey Saints, Macleay Valley will be at home to Port Saints, Sawtell clash with Coffs Coast while Northern Storm and Boarmee meet in a local derb
