A man has died following a suspected shark attack on at Tuncurry this morning (Tuesday, May 18).

At about 11.20am, emergency services were called to Tuncurry Beach and found a man suffering critical injuries to his upper right thigh after being attacked while surfing.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was pulled from the water and officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District commenced CPR; however, he died at the scene.
Tuncurry Beach and Forster Main Beach are currently closed.
Police will be working with the Department of Primary Industries to identify the species responsible.

EARLIER: Reports have been received that a man has been attacked by a shark at Tuncurry Beach.
NSW Ambulance told media they received a call just before a 11.15 Tuesday morning, May 18.
They say reports are the man was bitten on the leg and four ambulance crews were providing support.
He is in a serious conditions and paramedics are still treating him at the scene.
