Magic won 3-0.
"We went into the game with a defensive strategy and we stuck to it for the first 25 minutes,'' Mid Coast coach Mick Grass said.
However, he said Mid Coast went away from the game plan and Magic - a team expected to be a major contender this year - made them pay.
"Then we tried top open up the game a bit and unfortunately we conceded two more goals,'' Grass added.
However, he was pleased with the team's defence in the second half, when they kept Magic scoreless.
Josie Mays and Lainey Elford were strong for Mid Coast, particularly in defence.
"I thought our midfield worked hard as well,'' Grass added.
Mid Coast will be back on the road this weekend with a clash against newcomers Maitland at Maitland.
"They've been going pretty well, so that's going to be a test for us,'' Grass said.
