An Anzac Sunday service will be held on April 18 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Old Bar commencing at 11am.
Taree Parish rector, Father Peter Tinney will officiate at this annual event in Old Bar. He is also the Old Bar Beach RSL Sub-branch chaplain.
In addition to the normal holy Eucharist held that day, members of the Old Bar Beach RSL sub-Branch will be in attendance and an RSL tribute will be conducted. Everyone is welcome. Full size medals may be worn.
Anzac Day preparations almost finalized
As already advised in previous editions, a dawn service, and march and community service will be held in Old Bar this year.
It has now been confirmed that an Australian Light Horse Association troop from the Manning branch will be in attendance and lead the march.
Under the command of Rodney O'Regan OAM VA, it will consist of riders, foot soldiers and nurses, all in World War I uniform.
The horses are always popular with the public, especially children. They are ex-NSW Mounted Police horses standing 17 hands at least and as such are quite used to crowds.
Don't miss out on the commemorations at Old Bar this year.
Stations of the Cross at Old Bar
Easter celebrations commenced at Old Bar last Friday at Our Lady of Fatima church with the annual ecumenical Stations of the Cross. A capacity congregation commemorated the crucifixion of Jesus in the grounds of the church under a sunny sky.
The catholic congregation of Old Bar has hosted this event for many, many years and it is believed to be the longest running stations of the cross event in the area.
Scam attempted
An Old Bar CTC volunteer recently received an email allegedly from a company called Flexirent, claiming that she had been overcharged and to supply banking details for a refund. Not a particularly sophisticated attempt as it was readily recognized that there had been no dealings with a company by that name.
Nevertheless, it shows the variety of ways scammers will attempt to fleece you. Providing banking details via the internet is inadvisable unless you are sure who you are dealing with and generally following a contact made by you and not the other way around.
