The proposal involves rezoning rural land to the east of Manning River Drive for a commercial/industrial precinct that will be divided into 3.5 hectares for business zoning and 13.7 hectares for industrial zoning with plans to access via Glenthorne Road at the existing roundabout at Manning River Drive and future plans to have an access road from Manning River Drive in the west to the site.
"The Glenthorne Employment Area Planning Proposal will provide a new commercial and industrial precinct at the southern gateway to Taree," MidCoast Council's acting manager of land use planning, Gerard Tuckerman said.
"Given that this is along the busiest road into Taree we want to hear what the community thinks of the proposal.
"There is also a draft Development Control Plan (DCP) accompanying this proposal with associated environmental corridors to ensure key habitat and watercourse areas are preserved and enhanced."
The DCP is also included so the development occurs with a high level of amenity of the gateway entrance to Taree and to make sure that an orderly development occurs, Mr Tuckerman said.
It is expected that, should the rezoning be approved, the first development of the site will be a service station.

The public exhibition period for this proposal runs from March 30 to April 30.
