2021 welcomes the seventh volume of stories. The 100 top stories from across New South Wales are selected each year from the entries produced by NSW Seniors Card holders.
This year's competition has begun and closes at noon, May 31. The theme this year is "What's age got to do with it?"
The competition has been extremely successful, providing an avenue for older Australians to tell their stories.
A book is published of the 100 top stories and is launched in November 2021 when all authors will receive their copy. They are issued to NSW Libraries and Radio National provides an audio presentation.
FAW assists in the NSW Government and Seniors Card sponsored Seniors Stories competition.
For full competition terms and conditions contact to either Maureen Kelly OAM, phone 0417 403 720 or email honsecretary@fawnsw.org.au; or Colleen Parker 6583 3997 or email parkerpattinson2@bigpond.com
About the Fellowship of Australian Writers
The Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) was formed in Sydney in 1928 to assist with and promote Australian writing. Prominent members included Mary Gilmore, Steele Rudd, Miles Franklin and Dorothea Mackellar. There are branches across NSW including the Port Macquarie Hastings branch, which opened its doors in 1978.
The group of already-published writers or complete beginners, meet to discuss their interest in the written word.
The learn about and improve their craft by:
- Group discussion
- Critiquing their work
- Having set homework
- Combining their collective efforts into two books of short stories each year
Guest presenters attend meetings for discussion and workshops. The Port Macquarie Hastings branch recently enjoyed a poetry presentation and play-writing workshop and there is a session coming up on punctuation and lay-out.
A visitor is offered three free meetings before needing to join.
FAW NSW publishes a quarterly magazine Writers Voice for its members, offering information on competitions, accepting poetry and short stories for each edition and advertising news and literary achievements from each branch.
For those who are unable to attend a meeting FAW has an Isolated Writers branch. Or join a particular branch and send/receive your work via email.
Port Macquarie/Hastings meets at Mac Adams Music Centre, 33 Lord Street, Port Macquarie, the last Saturday of the month from 1pm to 4pm.
