People in Cundletown have no issue with the bridge being out of action for painting and repairs for a period of weeks in the middle of the night, but to rip out the existing bridge will leave us with no bridge at all for many months to one year.
"Replacing" a bridge is major challenge that takes a very long time to implement and is extremely expensive.
The existing bridge is fine and works well. Why bother replacing it?
If anyone wants to bring something extremely tall into Taree and it won't fit under the Dawson River Bridge canopy, then that is the exception, and ripping out the existing bridge and building a new one just for that isolated case would seem to be total waste of money.
There are other ways to get into Taree. Otherwise the truck can use the Northern Gateway and do all work there without needing to enter Taree proper.
