The Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival committee is planning a unique tartan and hopes the design can also be used on souvenirs such as tea towels and scarves to be sold at Wingham Museum. Festival chairman Dr Wade King said the committee has chosen the colours of dark green and blue - to represent the brush and the sea - together with yellow and white lines.

The ladies at the Wingham Spinners and Craft Group have been tasked with the job to create samples of three possible designs.

Before the tartan can be finalised it needs to be registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans. It seems anyone can register a new tartan as long as it meets certain criteria. It's not clear how long the whole process will take but it is hoped the new Bonnie Wingham tartan will be ready for the next Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival to be held June 4-6, 2021. Dr King said another project being considered by the festival committee is the installation of a cairn in Central Park.
