The council is undertaking an extensive communication consultation process in regards to the proposed water playground and has offered to visit schools right up until the school holiday break with displays and activities aimed at getting feedback and ideas.
"Our teams can visit any school and set up some fun displays and provide some engaging feedback activities to find out what our local kids want to see included in the water playground," MidCoast Council community spaces, recreation and trades manager, Dan Aldridge said.
The activities could be run as a learning activity on community participation in decision making, he said.
They can also be set up within school library or hall areas, so that children and the wider school community can have their say during lunch or free periods.
They're suitable for children from toddlers to teens - from colour-ins to online quizzes and image uploads, there's a way for everyone to have a say.
Council is inviting local schools, preschools, child care centres and after school/holiday vacation centres to get involved in the water playground consultation process and let it know how to utilise the free water play space that will be open every day of the year.
We think that local schools may have multiple uses for a water playground on the scale that we're planning for Tuncurry, so we'd like to hear how we can tailor the playground for them.
- Dan Aldridge
Water playgrounds are one of the safest ways for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy water play.
With zero water depth across the playground, the risk of drowning accidents is greatly reduced, making the facilities popular for school groups to visit.
There are also sensory benefits for children in experiencing water playgrounds.
"We think that local schools may have multiple uses for a water playground on the scale that we're planning for Tuncurry, so we'd like to hear how we can tailor the playground for them," Mr Aldridge said.
To get your school or educational children's facility involved, please call Koran North on 7955 7273 and discuss an option that will suit you.
"We're also consulting with people living with a disability, their carers, families and local disability organisations - as we want to make sure the Tuncurry water playground is an accessible and all-ability play space that can be enjoyed by everyone."
There's still spaces at accessibility focus groups for the above people to attend, please visit the link below to register.
"Our teams will also be out and about this week - on Friday, December 4 pop down to the water playground site to chat with them from 3pm until 5pm.
"They will also be at the Tuncurry Rock Pool on Saturday, December 5 from 10am until 12pm."
And if you prefer to have your say from the comfort of your own home, visit the MidCoast Council Tuncurry water playground page for more information, survey and quick poll, image gallery uploads and pre-reader colour-in sets.
