Parkruns were shutdown around the world in March because of the pandemic. However, the popular 5km community runs have resumed in most Australian states.
Queensland parkrunners hit the ground running last Saturday while South Australia resumes this weekend. NSW and Victoria have yet to receive the all clear. However, it is hoped that a lifting of restrictions in NSW announced on Wednesday by Premier Gladys Berejiklian could result in parkrun returning in this State.
Events, such as protests and community sport, can have 3000 people from Monday.
"We will be back,'' a post on the Taree parkrun Facebook page promises.
"In NSW, the COVID-19 Policy Team, Public Health Response Branch NSW Ministry of Health have reviewed our application and put this forward to the minister. We are currently awaiting an outcome,'' parkrun Australia said in a post last month.
Parkrun came to Taree in May 2015 and was the first on the Mid North Coast. Held at 8am on a Saturday, participants negotiate a 5km course along the Taree foreshore, starting and finishing at Endeavour Place. The event averages more than 100 starters per week. Parkruns are now held at Forster, Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Gloucester
