Speaking out the front of the hospital today, November 13, Mr Bromhead said the announcement was terrific news for residents in the Myall Lakes, who had long called for further investment in the region's health infrastructure.
"$1.5 million has been allocated to progress the $100 million stage two upgrade of Manning Base Hospital, which will deliver expanded and upgraded inpatient accommodation, refurbished operating theatres, a new critical care unit and new recovery beds, as well as a new day surgery unit," he said.
Mr Bromhead said the funding followed on from the $40 million the NSW Government had already been spent on the stage one redevelopment of the hospital, which delivered a new medical imaging department, enhanced cancer care and renal dialysis services, a new patient and staff car park, and improved access for patients.
Mr Bromhead said he expected stage two redevelopments to begin in 2021.
"We expect to see scaffolding and fencing up within the next 12 months," he said.
"If they're able to start this financial year, we'd expect it to be completed by 2023."
Mr Bromhead also confirmed the remaining $98.5 million that had been promised for the stage two redevelopment would be delivered in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 budgets.
"[The] stage two redevelopment is to be delivered during this term of government, the funding for the detailed planning is in this budget, and I'm looking forward to it getting started, I'm looking forward to it getting finished," he said.
Mr Bromhead also announced that funding for the proposed Forster Public Hospital had been secured in the upcoming budget, with Forster-Tuncurry to share in a $7.9 million pool of planning money.
"That is for the continued planning and design of Forster Public Hospital," he said.
