Now Manning Cricket has its own version of Taree Test matches. Tomorrow Taree United will meet Taree West in the second grade clash at Johnny Martin Oval.
This follows the off-season decision by the United club to add the Taree prefix to the name.
Both sides will be bolstered by former Mid North Coast Premier League players this season. Ricky Campbell, Matt Collier, Josh Ferris, Danial Stone and Nathan Ballard from United all have premier league experience. Taree West have Paul Cox, Ryan Williams and Brendan Mays among others. Cox played a leading role with the bat and ball when the West upset premiers Great Lakes last week.
United received a forfeit in the opening game against Gloucester and defeated Wingham last start.
Great Lakes will look to atone for last weekend's dismal batting display against Taree West when they meet competition leaders Old Bar at Tuncurry.
The formidable Great Lakes battling lineup crumbled to be all out for just 59. Only two batsmen made it to double figures. Great Lakes defeated Old Bar in last season's grand final.
Wingham and Gloucester will clash in the other second grade game, with the fixture to be played at Wingham's Central Park. Both sides will be looking for their first win of the season. Old Bar leads the competition on 12 points, with Great Lakes, United and Taree West all on six. Wingham and Gloucester have yet to open their account.
