Fullback JJ Gibson, who battled cramps late in the game, made a half break that put the Tigers into field goal goal zone and Essery calmly potted the one pointer. So ended an at times scrappy encounter where neither team was able to dominate.
Old Bar led 8-6 at halftime via tries to Ethan Ferguson, who earlier played in the under 16 game for Taree Panthers and winger Ethan Collings. Winger Liam Phillips scored the opening try of the game for Wingham and Essery landed the conversion from the sideline. Essery's boot had a major say in the proceedings, as Old Bar scored three tries to two but couldn't land a goal.
Taree Panthers held out Port City 36-30 in the under 16 grand final, where Ethan Ferguson was the player of the match.
Forster-Tuncurry accounted for Port Macquarie 20-12 in an entertaining under 15 grand final while Port Macquarie won the under 14 and 13 grand finals.
Full details on the games will appear online and in the Manning River Times next week.
