About 6am on Friday, September 11, police stopped a 49-year-old Green Point man on Victoria Street, Taree.
He returned a positive result to a roadside breath test and was taken to Taree Police Station. He underwent further breath analysis and returned a mid-range reading.
His licence was immediately suspended and was issued a court attendance notice.
A few hours later, police saw the same man driving a car on Glenthorne Avenue, Glenthorne.
He returned a positive reading to another roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station where he returned a 0.033 reading.
He was charged with driving with a special range prescribed concentration of alcohol and suspended driving.
The man was conditionally bailed to not drive the vehicle and was released.
About 5pm, the man was observed by police driving on the Lakes Way at Rainbow Flat.
Officers activated warning devices to stop the man but were unsuccessful. The driver allegedly refused to stop and accelerated in a manner to avoid police.
He then allegedly drove the vehicle on the wrong side of the road and was later seen by police driving carelessly on Macintosh Street, Forster.
The vehicle stopped at a Macintosh Street business and the driver was arrested without incident.
He was taken to Forster Police Station and was charged with failing to stop for police direction, dangerous driving, suspended driving for the second time in one day and breach of bail.
