Dean Butler was reportedly fishing for snapper on Sunday, August 30 when he came across more than a dozen sharks feeding on a whale carcass.
He told 9 News that he stopped his boat to film the feeding frenzy when a large great white swam away from the whale and bit into his propeller.
"The only two bites I got all day were of those sharks eating my boat," Mr Butler said.
He said he moved some distance away from the feeding frenzy when the great white swam away from his boat.
While he wasn't rattled by the incident, Mr Butler said it was a good thing the encounter happened in the day because it would've been "pretty scary" if it happened at night.
"I wasn't concerned, I was just happy to witness it, it was pretty cool," Mr Butler said.
He said there was also a large tiger shark feeding on the whale carcass.
It's been a busy year for great white shark encounters off the coast of Forster-Tuncurry, with numerous encounters occurring between May and June.
In early May, a crew of commercial fishermen were forced to free a great white from their nets while hauling in mullet off Tuncurry's Nine Mile Beach.
In early June, a juvenile great white swam into the Tuncurry Rock Pool and needed help to get back into Cape Hawke Harbour.
