MidCoast Council is working with the Black Head Tennis Club to remove six pine trees located to the north of the tennis courts to prevent further invasive root damage to the court surfaces.

"The tennis club has received funding of $100,000 from the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund to remediate and resurface the playing surface of the courts and the removal of the non-native pine trees is an essential step to prevent future court surface damage," council's Dan Aldridge said.
The trees were planted some years ago by the tennis club, to provide a wind break for the courts, however as they have matured their root systems have caused significant damage to the court surface.
"Tree management measures such as pruning and installation of root barriers over recent years have not been successful in preventing the court surface damage," Mr Aldridge said.
"As these trees are not native, and are not protected or heritage listed, council has given approval for their removal, so that the club can proceed to upgrade the court surface thanks to the grant."
The works will be undertaken in the coming weeks, when weather conditions permit.
MidCoast Council and the Black Head Tennis Club will work together to plan a more appropriate wind break for the site.
