The hard work done over the past month by volunteers from the Old Bar Beach Sand Replenishment Group (OBBSRG) and Manning Coastcare Group appears to have had dividends.

Heavy seas recently pounded much of the east coast of NSW, with devastating effects in some areas of the State, as seen on our nightly news.
Interestingly, the groyne below the Rose Street lookout has not been uncovered by the seas.
The groups above have worked over the past month installing sand traps along Old Bar Beach and although the seas have destroyed these, as is always expected, there appears to be little damage done to the dunes.
The waves do not appear to have reached the vegetated section of the dunes. The sand traps, along with the sand scraping previously undertaken by MidCoast Council, appear to be having a positive effect.
The "hands on work" done by the two groups has been led by Barbara Fogarty and Pat Abdoo with volunteers from Manning Coastcare. If you care and have time available, contact Barb Fogarty on 0431 040 766 or email Ian and Barbara on foggyford2@gmail.com.
The president of the OBBSRG, Mrs Elaine Pearce, advises that she has been contacted by council's Gerard Tuckerman advising that the final draft of the Racecourse Creek Stormwater Study was received last Friday, July 17. The findings will be communicated to the group in the next two weeks.
Manning State Park, including Mudbishops Park, has still not been transferred to the control of council. In respect to Racecourse Creek, the OBBSRG is still pushing for an exit to the beach opposite Flow Bar with groyne to protect Badgers Beach from further erosion.
The 11th annual general meeting of the OBBSRG is being proposed at Club Old Bar, 1 Belford Street, Old Bar, function room 2 on Sunday, August 30, commencing at 2.30pm.
Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, presently only 20 people are allowed at each of three tables (60 people) in the room at the one time.
Tax Help in Old Bar
Good news for many PAYE workers. The Old Bar Community Technology Centre (CTC) is able to again offer Tax Help this year.
Regular Tax Help volunteer, Belinda May, is providing this free service free as in past years.
Appointments are essential and will be available on Thursday afternoons, commencing tomorrow (July 23) at 1pm. Other days may be able to be arranged if there are genuine reasons for these times not being suitable.
If your income is around $60,000 and is simple, Tax Help may be available for you. To ascertain your eligibility and make an appointment, phone the CTC on 6553 6677 between 10am and 1pm weekdays or 10am and noon Saturdays. Or call in at the CTC at 5/45 Old Bar Road next to Old Bar Take-away and pick up your information form.
RSL post-COVID
The Old Bar Beach RSL Sub-branch held its first post-COVID-lockdown meeting and this time at the Soldiers' Memorial Hall. Some 20 members turned up, including some new members.
There were two major topics of discussion.
The sub-branch is to explore the possibility of forming an auxiliary. Auxiliaries have existed in other areas for many years and until recently, were Women's Auxiliaries but are now, with a name change, open to men also.
They assist sub-branches in fund raising and some logistics. There are already a number of people who have expressed interest in the idea.
The three day event planned to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day, beginning August 16, has been cancelled. For more information contact John Macartney on 6557 4165 or 0427 787 296 or email hfvemu67@gmail.com.
