"The lockdown gave us the opportunity to slow down and play some music," Brett said.
The couple have been married for 10 years and say they've been playing music together the whole time.
However thanks to the pandemic, home gigs have turned into paid ones.
The couple are now known professionally as The Sedges and performed their first venue gig at Flow Bar in Old Bar on Sunday to a sell out audience.
It followed months of the Lockdown Sessions via Facebook watched on by family and friends.
Brett, who is relieving Wingham High School's English head teacher Gary Dunbier, said it was a fantastic experience playing at Flow and he hopes more gigs will follow.
He's been in covers bands before and is no stranger to the stage.
For Jen, who is deputy principal of Chatham High School, the occasion marked her first paid gig.
It was made extra special because the couple's young grandchildren were in the audience.
On top of his new musical venture with his wife, Brett is also looking forward to the COVID-19 restrictions easing further so his new band No Principles can perform.
The band is made up of teachers from the local area.
"We'd been jamming for about a year and were about to play our first gig when the lockdown was announced," said Brett.
