He explains how a fireball tore through his timber fence, the radiator was blown out of his tractor and he watched trees explode on the property's ridge.
The Bobin community became isolated as trees came down on roads around them, cutting off support. They were left with a handful of firefighters. Aerial waterbombing was not an option because the smoke was too think.
Paul and his family evacuated on Saturday, November 9, 2019 when the fire jumped the fire break they had cleared earlier. Flames of 14 feet and higher were moving quickly across the paddock and their water tanks were starting to buckle in the heat.
They returned 20 minutes later to find the house ablaze. The fire changed direction and they had to evacuate again.
