A 65-year-old man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital late Sunday afternoon, June 7 after he had seriously injured his hand in an accident with a circular saw.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to meet a road ambulance at the Taree airport. The man was stablised for transport by the aircraft medical crew.
He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for specialist treatment in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, Operation Stay Alert began at midnight on Friday, June 5 and concludes at 11.59pm Monday, June 8, with officers targeting speeding, drink and drug driving, driving while fatigued, mobile phone, helmet and other traffic offences.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboys, said all Highway Patrol Officers are on duty throughout the Queen's Birthday Long weekend.
"Drivers and riders putting others at risk can expect to lose their licence this weekend: we need to change their behaviour on our roads. Double demerit points will apply for all speeding, seatbelt, motorcycle helmet and mobile phone offences," Assistant Commissioner Corboys said.
