Construction of the new track started in 1973. The track was officially opened by North and North Western District Racing Association chairman Stewart Nivison on Tuesday September 10 1974. It cost $200,000 to build.
Today's Our History Our Memories focuses on the start of work at the track through to the official opening. The meeting coincided with the running of the Taree Cup and attracted a huge crowd.
