Her plea came on Monday as she prepared to close the doors of her Isabella Street cafe Bent on Food following new measures put in place for gatherings to further contain the spread of COVID-19.
As well as cafes and restaurants, licensed clubs, pubs, gyms, cinemas, casinos and places of worship were required to close their doors from noon on Monday.
The only light at the end of the tunnel for those offering food was that they could still open for takeaways.
On the Garden Grub Facebook page the Wingham cafe announced it had prepped for a takeaway only situation and would soon be offering an app for ease of ordering.
The Little Red Cafe and Take Away in Wingham Plaza also sprang into action changing their entrance on Monday to make it flow better for takeaways. The cafe also announced a change to business hours with the business now operating Monday to Friday, 8am - 2pm only.
While there is definite hope some of our favourite cafes can survive the pandemic by adapting to change, the reality is not all will make it through.
"It's not going to work financially for us we don't think." Donna Carrier said.
"We probably won't be able to survive on just a couple of takeaways. We'll probably have to close anyway if that's the case," she said.
Bent on Food employs 12 staff.
And while the financial difficulties faced by her business are weighing heavily on Donna, so too is the wellbeing of her community.
"We are all in this together," she said.'
"This is a global pandemic and we just need to look after each other, be kind to each other and look out for people especially those more vulnerable in our communities.
"If people are self isolating, call them and check on them.
Donna also pointed out that mental health could be an issue.
"We need to make sure everyone is feeling okay and stays healthy and stays safe."
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has warned further closures could result if people continued to ignore the current social distancing requirements.
