The free Food Smart workshop on Saturday, November 30 will teach participants how to reduce food waste, eat well and save money through better planning, shopping and storing of food.
"The average NSW household throws away $77 worth of edible food every week and in doing so wastes the energy, water and natural resources used to grow, package, transport and market that food," explained Chris Jones, manager of MidCoast Council Libraries.
"It's a great initiative for our libraries to be involved with because these lessons are things we can all do in our own homes."
The workshop, from 11am to 1pm, is part of a series that has been held across the region and is connected to the online Food Smart education program that provides another resource for implementing what is learnt at the workshop, at home.
Free afternoon tea will be provided and bookings are essential. Visit midcoastlibraries.com.au/events to secure your spot.
This project is a NSW Government Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
