Communities in the area, particularly Bobin, old Bar, Wallabi Point, Hillville, Killabakh, Rainbow Flat, Johns River and more, are starting to assess the damage after devastating bushfires swept through the region and destroyed multiple homes.
Fires are continuing to be fought in the area, with community groups and leaders determining there is a crucial and urgent need for a central person on-the-ground who can assure a consistent and coordinated recovery.
"There has been a massive groundswell and community response that now desperately needs coordination by an experienced coordinator with local knowledge," Taree Lion's member Phil Grisold said.
"The NSW Premier and Emergency Services Minister announced the appointment of Mr Euan Ferguson as Recovery Coordinator to oversee the response across NSW, but for our local region we are floundering and urgently need regional leadership on the ground in the Manning Valley."
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead has written to the Emergency Services Minister David Elliott requesting a local person, who knows the area well, be appointed in the role .
The call has been further backed by community leaders including Myall Lakes Woman of the Year 2018 Donna Ballard.
"Premier Gladys Berejiklian is familiar with our region and we hope that she can be there for us in this time of urgent and ongoing need," Mrs Ballard said.
