Players came from Jamberoo, Lithgow, Canberra, Toronto, Newcastle, Sydney along with three teams from Queensland - Pine Rivers, Redcliffe, and the Redbacks to contest the NSW Gateball Championships hosted by Taree Croquet Club.

The doubles event was played in two blocks of seven pairs and six pairs with the final contested the following morning. Winners were John Park and Penny Park from Lithgow Lightning. Geoff Morris and Paul Ekeberg from Redcliffe Roses is Queensland were the runners up.
Fifty seven players competed in the team event played over two days. This was a round robin contested by nine teams. Epstars, made up of players from Epping and nearby clubs won from Redcliffe Roses.
The croquet courts were very busy and colourful for these three days, and the weather was kind, not too hot or cold or windy, and only one brief shower of rain.
This was the first time the championship has been played at Taree.
Gateball is a mallet sport similar to croquet. It is a fast-paced, non-contact, highly-strategic team game, which can be played by anyone regardless of age or gender. Although relatively new in Australia, it is played by millions of people throughout Asia and South America.
