Edward was involved with horses throughout his young life, working for a breeder in the Macleay region and dabbling as a jockey on the Mid North Coast.
A race in Bulahdelah would turn out to be his last. Edward's horse Bellbird stumbled on the course, forcing him to dismount and be caught by his foot on a stirrup.
As the horse continued to gallop, Edward was smashed against the railing alongside the course.
He died at the scene of a fractured skull and was later buried at Woola Cemetery.
"The Coroner's inquest was heard the next day and it was determined it was just a complete accident with no one to blame," MidCoast Stories' Penny Teerman said.
A jockey hat and whip was engraved on the headstone. Be sure to check out our website every Wednesday at 8pm for the latest video in the series.
