Written by Harrington author Joel Wakely, 'The Passion for Utes- An Australian Obsession' is a hard-cover memento-style book that features a collection of stories about many of the ute models imported and produced since the 1920s.
The book contains contributions from dozens of ute enthusiasts, as well as hundreds of photos never seen in print before such as Ford's first true ute in the 1930s, the first all-Australian (Holden) ute in the early 1950s and the highlights of decades of ute development.
It was launched at Harrington Library last Friday.
MidCoast Council's libraries manager Chris Jones said Joel's knowledge of the history of utes is exhibited throughout the book.
"Joel's passion and background for the industry means he's the perfect person to produce a book of this kind," Chris said.
"He is so knowledgeable about all motor vehicles and his popularity continues to grow among automotive enthusiasts near and far."
Joel will be on-hand this Sunday at the Cundletown Motor Show to talk about his book.
He has worked with and raced cars throughout his life, owning significant and rare models including several utes.
In 1958, Joel started his first business venture, a BP petrol station. It was here he became involved with a racing team.
After working for Bob Jane-T Mart, for seven years, Joel started a career in the car rental industry. He did this for three decades.
After a short retirement, Joel started another business specialising in the restoration and detailing of prestige and unique vehicles.
