The family and extended family and friends of the late Frank Stanley Atkins, who passed away in Queensland on July 1, travelled from as far as Dubbo, Ettalong, Singleton and Branxton to celebrate his life at a wake in the lovely freshly painted Lansdowne Public Hall.

Frank was born at the family home in Lansdowne on August 9, 1926, son of Stanley and Elsie Atkins, one of four boys and six girls.
As always, a great spread of delicious food was provided by the generous local people. It was a very special occasion for the family to reunite in their hometown after so many years.
Brigades kept busy
Lansdowne Rural Fire Brigade along with Kundle Moto, Tinonee and Coopernook brigades have been having a very busy time recently.
They were called to Coopernook State Forest were it was reported powerlines were down as a result of a tree falling. On arrival they found wires down and a small bush fire.
Due to there being only track in, blocked by the powerline, they couldn't attack the fire until the energy company made the lines safe. By the time that happened the fire had grown.
They then decided to back burn about four hectares to make safe the fire edges.
All crews did a great job with their taskings and completed the back burn inside the estimated time they thought it would take. They would also like to thank the campers who phoned in with clear directions and roads with landmarks, resulting in the brigades getting there with no delay.
On another day the Lansdowne crew were out and about testing the cadets with some problem solving, such as if the Cat 9's pump failed how would they get water to defend their truck in a hurry? They came up with a portable pump, it worked they saved the Cat 9.
The four crew on the Moorland 2 truck, that the Lansdowne brigade is housing, were clearing buried hydrants and flushing along North Moto Road while Lansdowne's CABA (compressed air breathing apparatus) team went for a gentle jog in their breathing apparatus. Then they carried out maintenance and prep for the season, it was a top day had by all. Well done team.
Remember that a lot of our brigades need volunteers so if you have some extra time to spare go along to the brigade closest to you and have a chat to the members.
There are so many ways that you can help. You do not have to go and fight fires.

Lansdowne Lionesses make the final
Congratulations to the Lansdowne Lionesses football team who played the Pacific Palms ladies' team last Friday evening and had a 2-1 win.
Our Lansdowne Lionesses will now play Tuncurry at Tuncurry in the final tonight, Friday, August 23. The game commences at 6.30pm.
A bus has been organised to take Lansdowne supporters to Tuncurry to cheer on the Lionesses. If you wish to go on the bus contact Carol Potts on 0428 567 063.
Fishing club family fun day
The Lansdowne fishing club family fun day is on this Sunday, August 25. It is being held at Wingham Brush Reserve and commences at 9.30am.
School news
Lansdowne School held a very successful combined Book Week and Education Week recently.
There were a great many parents, family members and friends that attended the school for the day with the children.
There were some amazing activities going on in the classrooms and the parade of the children all dressed in some amazing costumes. The teachers and staff looked pretty good also.
The students at Lansdowne School will be having a colour run on Thursday, September 5 at the school. They have already raised $1200.

The Dungareers performing at Upper Lansdowne
The Dungarees have made their own unique brand of country music and they are becoming one of Canada's fastest rising stars. They are now in Australia briefly for the Gympie Muster (having previously played at Tamworth), plus a few other shows, one of which is at the Upper Lansdowne Hall on Wednesday, August 28. The show commences at 7pm.
