Members and prospective members are very welcome and can perhaps contribute "think power" and any ideas which might help the group move forward with protection of Old Bar beach and replenishment of the sand. The meeting is on Sunday, August 25 at 2.30pm at Club Old Bar.
The group was inaugurated January 2009, so it has been working 10 years for the community to save this beautiful beach and protect community property.
Group president Elaine Pearce said the guest speakers Andrew Staniland and Dr Thomas Doyle are very approachable and have regular meetings with the group, keeping members up to date with the many instructions they get from the State government with regard to this Coastal Management Program (CMP) .
The present plan, made in 2015, is a practical coastal engineering solution by world leading coastal engineer Angus Jackson. This four stage plan is now sitting with MidCoast Council pending completion of the Old Bar Manning Point (CMP) which council is working to have completed by the end of 2020.
Most locals would be aware that some success was had in 2018 with sand scraping at a cost of $90,000, the outcome of a visit with then Minister for the Environment, Rob Stokes in 2017. The group is grateful for this protection and it is hoped this will now be included in yearly maintenance of the beach.
Ms Pearce said our community needs to be vocal about the very distressing state of Farquhar Inlet - once a popular water sport venue. Now there is much being said about being able to walk from Mudbishops across the built up sand to Farquhar Park and questions being asked about the solutions.
Contact Elaine Pearce on 0407 229 145 for any enquiries.
