And while these upgrades are under construction, they will not affect access to the gallery or interrupt the exhibitions and events.
Beginning Monday, August 12, the ramp access to the gallery will be closed while the new one is built, with a temporary accessible entrance available via the gallery park and side access gate.
The ramp is expected to be complete by the end of September, with the work on the studio spaces planned for the rest of the year.
The works, which also include a small exhibition space to support both emerging and local artists, are funded by the NSW Government in association with MidCoast Council and the Friends of the Gallery.
Gallery director, Rachel Piercy said this project has great support from the community and will improve the gallery's ability to connect and engage with audiences.
Meanwhile current exhibitions at the gallery include artist in residence, Kate Dorrough's "The Lyrical River" exhibition, which explores our connection with the Manning River. Kate's jam-packed residency includes a special Art Central workshop on Saturday, August 3 which will create a river totem.
There's also Stewart MacFarlane's intriguing exhibition, "The Real World", featuring figurative, pop-inspired pieces that span his 40 year career as a painter.
