Some landmarks of places are automatically recognisable by the general population. Take the Sunshine Coast , for example. One immediately associates the Big Pineapple, Noosa Beach and the Irwin's Australia Zoo with that area. Sydney's Harbour Bridge and Opera House are some of the most iconic and beloved landmarks in the world.

Google any general web page for information about Taree and one historic icon features frequently - the oldest, free standing building in the city, the Presbyterian Church.
Constructed in 1869, the church design incorporated elements of the Victorian Gothic Revival style of architecture, symbolising man's acknowledgement of God.
Galvanised iron superseded the original shingle roof in the early 1920s, the floorboards were replaced in the 1970s, and the guttering and painting updated in the early 1990s, but it still remains a consecrated structure today, used as a 'Kids Church' and meeting area.
Regular church services were conducted in the church from 1869 until 1966, when the 'new' Presbyterian Church was opened.
To celebrate the faith and endurance of 150 years of the church and its people, the congregation of the Taree Presbyterian Church invite former members and the public to join with them at a special Celebratory and Thanksgiving Service and brunch, to be held from 9am on Sunday, July 28, 2019.
An exhibition of church history and memorabilia will also be on display in the original church.
