Developed in partnership with Taree TAFE the program is a regional vocational pilot model that will deliver the 'Food Market Stall Skills Course' in Taree.
"This is such an exciting opportunity for newly migrant and refugee women to participate in a vocational program that will give them the independence to make their own employment," Migrant Settlement Project Worker Jane O'Dwyer said.
"The course will equip participants with the skills, education, qualifications and experience to run their own food market stall. It would be great to see some international food stalls popping up at our local markets!"
Finding a job is a key priority for migrants and refugees in our community. This course has been developed to help participants overcome some of the challenges in finding a job by providing vocational training that caters to varying English language levels, education and experience in an industry where many people already have amazing cooking skills.
While working is important for economic independence, it is also very important to helping migrants and refugees to integrate into the community and feel a sense of belonging.
The course will start on July 23 and runs during terms three and four this year on a Tuesday afternoon at Taree TAFE. The course is available to newly arrived migrant and refugee women and eligibility criteria apply.
