Last time the 11s sides met South West Rocks prevailed by just one point. But a very different result loomed as the Mustangs lead 25-0 at quarter time with Isaac Luke and Brenton Mance dominant in the middle.
However, the tide turned in the second quarter with the Dockers booting three quick goals, making the most of the strong tailwind.
A late goal to Isaac Luke once again saw a one point margin in play with the Mustangs leading 32-31 at half time.
Goals were hard to come by in the third quarter which featured solid defensive efforts from Carter Doesell, Arabella Roohan and Zac Thompson. The Mustangs held a fragile five point lead at the three quarter break.
The Dockers surged to a 10 point lead early in the fourth quarter and with inaccurate goal kicking it appeared the Mustangs may have wasted earlier opportunities with the breeze.
With just minutes left it was up to the forwards to find a way and they did with Tadgh Brislane and Isaac Luke both landing long range goals. Ruby Luke provided good support and Brenton Mance was exceptional in the middle throughout the match.
Just one point separated the sides again, but this time the Mustangs were victorious 7.14-56 to 8.7-55 on the back of the thrilling finish.
