The company was formed in 1891 after an amalgamation of Clarence, Richmond and Macleay Rivers Steam Navigation Company and John See and Company.
It served as the primary transport on water for passengers and freight in the Manning Valley.
The company's wharf was situated on the Manning River, close to where the Martin Bridge in Taree is today.
The service's role was diminished once the railway was built after the turn of the century.
A regular service was maintained in Taree until 1941.
It was voluntarily liquidated in 1954.
