Relive the story of Taree's Volunteer Air Observers Corps in World War II, where a band of locals would look for enemy planes flying over the Manning.
Part of the exercise was recruiting Taree High School students to sit atop of Fotheringham's Hotel on Victoria Street and alert the nearby Royal Australian Air Force's regional control room of any suspicions.
In the video, one of those students, Harry Dreyer, outlines his experiences more than 70 years on.
Some of the most unique, quirky and interesting stories in our region's history will be unearthed over the coming weeks through a new collaboration between the Manning River Times and MidCoast Stories.
Be sure to visit our website at 8pm every Wednesday for the latest video in the series.
