I recently spoke to the director/ performer Gene Peterson about how the show, described as a "supercharged urban circus", originally came together, and it's quite a fascinating story:
"The incentive to create 360 Allstars was spurred by the success of my two previous shows 'Gene Peterson Live' and 'Loop The Loop'.
"Both received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences and venues alike, so it was an easy decision to create a new work, and with the experience gained from producing these smaller shows, I felt ready to jump in the deep end and have a go at creating a bigger production - no restrictions, no limits.
"And that was literally my selection criteria for the art forms featured in 360 Allstars - 'awesome'.
"BMX Flatlanding, Basketball Freestyling, Breakdancing, Beatboxing, Drumming, Roue Cyr wheel... how many different types of awesome can we fit on one stage?
"And once you're thinking without limitations, it's too easy to dream big.
"Why should we settle for any old BMX rider? ...let's get the world champion! In fact, let's find out who's the best in the world at every one of these art forms, and see if we can get them?!
"We ended up head-hunting artists from UK, Europe, Asia, America, Australia and NZ. It probably wasn't the most cost-effective choice, but it was the decision to remove these logistical and financial parameters and put the art first that has made the show successful."
"The same went for production values.
"We definitely didn't hold back there either! It has an amazing lighting design, a killer live soundtrack, and a stunning video projections displayed across three video screens...
"It was like giving myself permission to think like a kid in a candy store and ignore the realities and restrictions that you learn to accept as an adult.
"I think that's why this work relates to a younger audience so well.
"It has everything a kid would think is cool because I was thinking like a child when I dreamt it up! And hopefully that appeals to the inner child of our adult audiences too."
We can't wait to welcome you and your family to this extraordinary show!
The 360 Allstars are on at the Manning Entertainment Centre on May 1.
