This follows the northern Junior State Cup at Port Macquarie.
The top eight teams from each division will be eligible to compete at Wollongong. Taree’s under 14 girls, coached by Kelsey Schneider and Teegan Rowsell and the under 18 boys, coached by Jake Lauder and Matt Bridge, were quarter finalists at Port Macquarie.
However, Taree Touch president Graham Goodwin said it will cost $770 per team to go to Wollongong. Taree will also have to supply three referees and the association will have to cover the cost of their accommodation.
“We’ve left the decision on whether they go to the parents,’’ Mr Goodwin said.
Taree sent the maximum 10 teams to Port Macquarie. While the 14s and 18s were standouts, all other sides made it to the round of 16.
The State Cup was split into northern and southern sections by NSW Touch for the first time this year.
“Even though it wasn’t a full State Cup there were still some strong associations there,’’ Mr Goodwin said.
Taree sides have been in training since last October and played at the Northern Eagles junior championships in Taree and the Hunter Hornets championships in Nelson Bay in preparation for the State Junior Cup.
