However, the sides have yet to complete a match against each other.
“All the games were washed out last year,’’ Wingham captain Michael Rees explained.
The same happened to the first round clash this season.
“We got them out for 80 and we were 0/20 after about two overs before the rain started in the first game last season,’’ Rees said.
“Then we scored 200 odd in the second game before it was washed out.
“We didn’t bowl a ball in the grand final.’’
So Rees is hoping for clear skies for Saturday’s clash at Port Macquarie.
On paper unbeaten Wingham would be raging favourites against the seventh placed Macquarie.
However, Rees said the Macquarie team they’ll face tomorrow will be considerably stronger than the one that struggled in the opening section of the season.
Rees agrees that Macquarie can’t really afford to stumble if they are going to play in the semi-finals next month.
“But they’re only one-and-a-half wins out of the four,’’ he pointed out.
“They're a dangerous team and I still wouldn’t be surprised if it’s them and us at the pointy end of the season.’’
Rees hasn’t heard if former captain Ben Scowen will be right this week.
Scowen now works out of the area and is only available sporadically.
Wingham’s game against Port Pirates was washed out last week – a decision that surprised Rees.
"It was called off at 8am on Saturday,’’ he said.
“Yet they played a game at Oxley Oval and one at Wauchope. It ended up a 30 plus degree day.’’
Wingham still holds a four point lead over second placed Wauchope.
Meanwhile, Port Macquarie Pirates head to South Kempsey to take on last placed Nulla.
While Nulla are not happy with the way their season is going, the Pirates will want to get back into a winning groove.
The match will toss up an intriguing encounter between dynamic all-rounders Dan Baker (Nulla) and Jarrod Humphreys (Port Macquarie).
At Oxley Oval, Rovers will play Port City Leagues Magpies.
This match shapes up as a crucial outing for both sides, with semi-final spots hanging in the balance.
The Magpies will have the services of top batsmen Ben Marron and Sean Minns while Rovers will look to Lachlin Dowling to get the ball to ‘talk’.
Wauchope has the bye.
