Starting at 1pm, eight heats were held, with all ages joining in and including heats for men, women, children and grandparents. Among this year’s competitors were Woody, Google and Wireman, who also competed as Shaz and “identifies herself as a woman.”
Each heat begins with competitors eating a Vegemite Sao or Weetbix, sculling a drink, rolling a keg, riding a toy horse or kangaroo, and writing the words “Krambach Iron man” with the wrong hand on the chalk board.
Following these field events the participants finish with the major part of the competition (where the most points are allocated), which calls for them to iron a shirt to showcase their ‘iron man’ skills.
The winner receives the perpetual ‘Iron Man’ trophy and bragging rights for 2019, while the ‘Golden Galah’ will be awarded to the most enthusiastic participant.
A charity auction was held at the end of heat four with donated local services, meals, produce and even 50 schooners up for grabs.
The very popular thong throwing competition was on between heats with a prize to the overall winners.
This year also included a tug-of-war, Australia versus the rest of the world.
Proceeds from this year will again go to Krambach Public School and other community events in Krambach.
